HELI-FISHING
The most productive option at Silverpine lodge is heli-fishing. The lake is fed by three legendary freestone rivers - the Hunter, the Dingle, and Timaru Creek. These iconic waters are best helifished with just you, your guide, the trout, and a day ahead. Fifteen minutes after finishing breakfast, a helicopter will land you in splendid isolation of a backcountry valley - just you, your guide, trout, and the day ahead in the Southern Alps. Exult in sight casting to speckled monsters, catch, photograph, and release them. If you mess it up, listen to the waters chuckle, "It doesn't matter", Other equally famous rivers abound within a 10 minute helicopter flight , including the Wilkin, Makarora, Young, Lindis, and Ahuriri Rivers. At the end of the day, fly home to sit in front of the fire and relive it.
Due to high demand, we recommend reserving fly-fishing guides as early as possible. We are more than happy to book fly-fishing guides and fishing trips from the best local outfitters for you.
FLY-FISHING WITH NATURE’S GENTLEMEN
New Zealand is one of the top two countries to fly-fish in the world. The trout caught in our rivers and streams need to be held with two hands for the photo. The brown trout arrived from England in 1865 via Tasmania, Australia. The rainbow trout were brought over from the Russian River area in California, USA.
The internationally known Hunter and Dingle Rivers are on our doorstep. A short helicopter flight away will also take you to High Country streams in the surrounding World Heritage Parks and privately owned sheep stations.
To make it worth the effort in travelling to New Zealand, we highly recommend that fly fishermen use the expert services of a professional guide. There are many options (depending on the day) in getting to the streams: helicopter, jet boat, and vehicle. A helicopter flight widens the choice of fishing streams. One, two, three days plus of fly fishing - no problems.
We have every confidence in our recommended guides to give you the best experience on the day. What we like best about our guides is that they are fishing on their days off. Some have even checked out the streams in China.
The guides will provide the equipment, just let us know your boot size.
