Hiking

Besides the beautiful Jumboland Adventure and Siberia Valley Walk, the area has many trails for every level of fitness:

Roi’s Ridge (45 min. return):  You might want a short walk before settling in and having dinner at the lodge.  Our huntaway (a NZ breed of farm dog) Roi will accompany you up this grassy ridge behind the lodge.  From this vantage point you can see both Lakes Wanaka (with the the background of Minaret Peaks) and Hawea with Sentinel Peak surveying all below.  The area is habitat for wild deer and native falcons as well.

The Blue Pools (45 min. return):  Around a 35 minute drive towards the Gates of Haast, in the Mt. Aspiring National Park.  This easy walk takes you through native beech forest and tree ferns.  Cross a swing bridge and finish at blue pools – where you may see rainbow and brown trout deep in the clear sapphire waters.

Kid’s Bush (1.5 – 2 hours return):  Located across Lake Hawea from the lodge, the trail leads through native beech forests and up above the tree-line to where you will have awesome views of Lakes Hawea and Wanaka.  A calm area on a windy day.

Diamond Lake (2.5 – 3 hours return):  Around a 1 hour drive around the edge of Lake Wanaka.  A nice hike up a hill – some parts steep- - but at the top, you will see film locations from Lord of The Rings.  At the loop, do it counter clockwise for the best views.

Rob Roy Glacier (3.5 – 4.5 hours return):  In the heart of Mt. Aspiring National Park via a 1.5 hour drive around Lake Wanaka; walk up through native beech forests and view the spectacular Rob Roy glacier in this home of the Kea, the New Zealand mountain parrot.

Bespoke guided walks in the Southern Alps:  Contact us for information on walks and a picnic in the Southern Alps via helicopter and guided by top mountaineers – many of whom professionally guide clients to climb the highest peaks in the world.
